Principal's Message

{title}
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year. Our Arts department took a huge step forward last year and we anticipate building on those successes. Nearly 200 of our children participated in the production 101 Dalmatians last spring. Our Arts Department is already discussing what the next production will be early 2018. In addition, our students produced amazing pieces of artwork under the direction of our art teacher. These were so wonderful that our faith-based partner, Episcopal Church of the Advent, hosted an Art Show in May and adults purchased pieces of art that our students created.
We have dynamic partnerships with many local agencies in Spartanburg. These local partners pack food bags for some of our students to have on weekends, help assist families with Christmas, tutor students, mentor students, help with holiday classroom parties, organize special themed days for different grade levels, and even sponsored a Leadership Club this past year where 25 students went to Washington D.C. This is not an all-inclusive list as they do many more things on a day-to-day basis. Mike Pence, our nation’s Vice President, even walked through the Capitol rotunda as we toured and stopped to take selfies with our students. It was an incredible experience!

MHW Receives 300 Books from Girl Scouts

MHW Receives 300 Books from Girl Scouts
The Episcopal Church of the Advent’s Girl Scouts generously donated about 300 books to our school! The girls conducted a Book Drive, as a Service Project, and collected a huge variety of books for our students. The school’s librarian, Mrs. C. Haggerty, looks forward to seeing students choose the books they’ll enjoy reading.
Thank you Troop 1664 girls!

Celebrating Reading at Mary H. Wright!

We’re celebrating reading more strongly than ever at Mary H. Wright this week as part of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. Guest readers from our community will read to students in grades 2-5 before school each morning, and Community Helpers will read to our kindergarteners in their classrooms.
On Dr. Seuss’ birthday, our Church of the Advent partners are providing a fun-filled carnival event for our 1st graders.
Thank you to all who are coordinating these events for our children.

Help Student Council add a little more COLOR to someone’s life!!!
Children who have to stay in the hospital for long periods of time, can get bored very easily. Please help Mary H. Wright’s Student Council during the month of March collect coloring books and crayons to donate to Spartanburg Regional’s Pediatric Unit.
Thanks so much!
