Bobcat Traditions

Bobcat Traditions are yearly and monthly events that Mary H. Wright students, staff, teachers, and parents enjoy and look forward to.

History

Digital Book Buddies

Students interact with peers in other grade levels to complete projects on their iPads such as reading and creating their own eBooks.

Fall and Spring Book Fair

Book fairs provide students the opportunity to shop for a book of their choice. Thirty percent of profits earned go towards new books for students in their library and classrooms.

7Reads Day

Each year students at Mary H. Wright will kick off literacy in September. Also, they will celebrate their summer reading achievements and hear storytellers, authors, and guest speakers encourage them to read, read, read.

Accelerated Reader Celebrations

These celebrations occur at the end of each grading period, every nine weeks, to celebrate the hard work of readers who have achieved 80% or better on their Accelerated Reader tests. Students who earn enough points from reading are able to participate in field trip activities such as movie, bowling, or ice skating parties.

Read Across America Day

On Dr. Seuss’ birthday in March, students particpate in a week long national event to celebrate books and the joy of reading and writing.

Mary H. Wright Honor Award

At the close of each school year, a fifth grade student is selected for the Mary H. Wright Honor Award by his or her teachers. Potential candidates are nominated based on their year long demonstration of character development, academic progress, service contributions, and school wide participation in activities.

American Education Week

All students participate in American Education Week by dressing in costume as their favorite book character to parade in our annual literacy parade throughout the halls of Mary H. Wright Elementary.
